Technical management

Engineering oversight from someone who has run the engine room.

Shore-side technical management, for charter and private yachts under 500 GT and of 500 GT and over, of hull, machinery, electrical, HVAC, safety and domestic systems. It is led by a Chief Engineer (Unlimited) and works alongside your yacht’s own engineering team, not over it.

What is included

  • Monthly technical review with the Chief Engineer: planned maintenance status, defects list, running hours and critical spares
  • Annual technical plan and budget
  • Defect escalation, OEM liaison and second-opinion diagnosis
  • An approval workflow for technical spend above the captain’s agreed limit
  • Class and flag survey calendar and co-ordination, so certificates never lapse and surveys fall in sensible yard windows
  • A quarterly technical report for the owner and captain, written in plain English

How we work

We start with a technical health check: a fixed-fee review of the yacht’s condition, maintenance history, certificates and critical equipment. That gives both sides a baseline and an honest list of priorities. After that, a named lead — our Technical Director — holds a monthly review with the Chief Engineer and reports to the owner and captain every quarter.

We work with your engineers, not around them. Decisions stay with the captain and owner; we give a clear recommendation, the reasoning behind it and the cost.

Deliverables you can expect

  • Technical health check report with graded findings
  • Survey and certificate calendar
  • Annual technical plan and budget
  • Quarterly technical reports and a live defects register

What is not included

To keep responsibilities clear, technical management does not include on-board attendance beyond the visits included in your tier, project management of yard periods (see Refit Supervision), crew payroll or certified condition and valuation surveys, which are carried out by qualified third-party surveyors.

Indicative pricing. For yachts under 500 GT, technical management is offered in two tiers: Technical Oversight (Tier B1) from €1,750 per month and Full Technical Management (Tier B2) from €3,000 per month, ex VAT. Add Safety Management (Tier A) from €2,700 a month combined. For yachts of 500 GT and over it is part of our ISM and technical management, priced per yacht. A technical health check is €3,500–€6,000. Questions owners and captains ask

Will you replace our Chief Engineer?

No. We support the engineering department with shore-side oversight, planning and a second opinion. A strong Chief Engineer is the best asset a yacht has.

Can you work alongside our current ISM manager?

Yes. Our technical tiers work alongside whoever runs your safety management system. We agree the interfaces with them in writing.

Do you attend on board?

Technical Oversight includes one on-board day a year and Full Technical Management includes two. Additional attendance is charged at our published day rate.
